the alt-air project
MORE RELEVANT AND MORE effECTIVe RESEARCH FOR PUBLIC HEALTH WITHOUT ANIMAL TESTING
Win a 5'000€ grant!
Thanks to THE ALT-AIR PROJECT fundraising campaign and its generous donators, Epithelix is proud to offer three grants of 5’000€ each.
We invite you to apply to win MucilAir™ or SmallAir™ 3D reconstructed human respiratory tissues for your research project.
How to apply
Please send a one page project and your CV to email@example.com (deadline October 31th 2020).
The award winners will be selected based on their proposal’s scientific merit and potential to replace animal testing, and will receive a 5'000€ award redeemable for MucilAir™ or SmallAir™ tissues (at standard commercial prices). Researchers from any sector (e.g., industry, academia, government) are encouraged to apply, and this opportunity is open to applicants worldwide.
Thanks to your support, the life of many
laboratory animals could be spared.
WHY WE NEED YOU?
Even today, most public and foundation funds support mainly bio-medical research on animals. However, it has been shown by the American Academy of Sciences that results obtained on animals are not always applicable to humans.
Alternative methods, more relevant and more effective, exist, but researchers have difficulties to obtain funding to conduct studies without animal testing.
THANKS TO YOUR SUPPORT, THE LIFE OF MANY LABORATORY ANIMALS COULD BE SPARED
The aim of the Alt-Air Project is to provide free models made of human cells to academic research groups relevant for studying the respiratory diseases such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, chronic obstructive bronchitis, allergies and viral or bacterial infections.
The advantage for research to use human in vitro models is to obtain results that are more easily transposable to humans in the development of new treatments than data from animal experiments.
WHERE DO THESE HUMAN CELLS COME FROM?
They come from samples taken in a hospital environment, for example, biopsies or surgical wastes, performed by a surgeon with the consent of the patients.
WHO WILL PROVIDE THESE CELL MODELS?
It is the biotechnology company Epithelix, created in 2006 and specialized in the field of human tissue engineering. In particular, it reconstitutes human mini-organs for research in the field of respiratory diseases.

DEADLINE FOR THE FUNDRAISING
Donations will be collected until March 31, 2020. There is no fixed amount of money to be collected. However, in order to replace as many animals as possible, we wish to raise as much money as possible.
From the 1st of April to 31st of December 2020, a list of all researchers who obtained cell cultures with your help will be posted on the Supported Projects page, with a detailed report of their research projects and their achievements.
ARE YOU READY TO HELP US?
So, please join us on the crowdfunding page for your donation!
A big thank you!

What projects have been supported?
The first information on research projects and researchers supported by Alt-Air Fund, with your help, will be published on this page from April 2020 onwards.
Who are we?
Epithelix is an independent, self-financed biotechnology Company, founded in 2006, specialized in the reconstitution of in vitro respiratory tissues.
The mini-lungs developed and manufactured by Epithelix have a lifespan of more than one year making it possible to study acute, chronic or long-term local effects of drugs or chemicals delivered by inhalation.
Since its creation, Epithelix has been supporting academic researches through access to its tissues on preferential terms. Epithelix’ goal is to further reduce to the use of animals for testing the efficacy or toxicity of products on the respiratory system.
